Gray Whale: An Ancestral Encounter in Puerto Chale

A soul-touching journey in Magdalena Bay, Baja California Sur. Every winter, thousands of gray whales travel from the Arctic to this tranquil lagoon to give birth and mate. You are about to enter that sanctuary.

This is not a tour. It is a privilege.

Every winter, something sacred happens in the Mexican Pacific. Thousands of gray whales travel thousands of kilometers from the Arctic to a tranquil lagoon in the middle of the desert... to give birth, to mate, to simply be.

A gift of nature that only exists a few months a year. And you are going to experience it from the heart of the Baja.

Official Season

What is the experience like?

The path to magic: the adventure begins early and takes you through the Baja desert to one of the most special places in Mexico.

1

Sunrise Departure

The adventure starts early: we pick you up and head north. The dawn light paints the Baja desert, with giant cardon cacti standing like guardians along the way.

2

Road to the Pacific

2.5 hours of travel through unique landscapes. Before you know it, you are entering Puerto Chale, where your boat is already waiting. The air smells of sea, mangrove and history.

3

Encounter with the Whales

For 2 to 3 hours we navigate inside the lagoon, temporary home of these giants. Here they mate, here their calves are born, here they rest after the longest migration in the animal kingdom.

It is common to see them pass by the boat, lift their heads to look at you, play with their babies. And if you are lucky... one will come closer. They are the ones who decide. Always.

4

Pacific Marine Life

Along the way you can also see dolphins, sea lions, frigatebirds, pelicans, ospreys and other birds that fill the Pacific air. We share a delicious local snack with you.

5

Return to La Paz

We return with salty skin, a soft heart and a story that will stay with you forever. Estimated arrival between 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
